Loneliness, according to one NHS website is an epidemic in our society. Everyone feels lonely at times, but as Christians we are privileged to have fellowship with one another when many have no one at all. I was reminded of this particularly this week, when Ireni and I started a new ladies social and crafts evening (mainly knitting!) at the YMCA. The group was requested by female residents at the YMCA who wanted something social to do as well as having a space to talk about their problems and support one another. The first evening was a great success with not only residents, but others from the community who came along too. During the evening, I watched those who I knew were struggling, brighten up, smile and laugh, simply because they were with others. I reflected when I got home that it is so easy to take the friendship and fellowship we experience in church for granted, but it is a very precious thing.
If you would like to join our group or know someone who might like to join, bring your knitting (or other craft) along to the YMCA Surbiton on Thursday evenings 7-8.30pm
